The house, which was completed in 1992, is being built at a cost of about $200,000 (£190,000) and involves welding in various spots, including the roof and basement, before being shipped home. It has been dubbed the "watermelon house". When sold, it will be one of the highest-rated homeownerships in the country, according to Open Homes magazine. The house was made by Tohoku's construction and sales team, who worked for the country's longest running building trust, The World Builders Association, or WRAC.


It had previously been a part of a project by a government agency, and has been available to rent for free in Tokyo, but the owner says he could not afford to buy it because it is located in a remote and expensive area of the country. He is planning to move the house to Tokyo's capital city and hopes to sell it to a local firm as soon as late next year. "I hope you will help out in trying to get this house built for anyone," says Mr Miyagawa.


The house is designed by Japanese design guru Hideki Kawase, with the help of Japanese-born art historian Shizuko Nakamatsu. One of the house's design features are some white stone beams on top, along with the usual white beams the building's designers have always coveted.
